Join us for our 6th Annual Pumpkin Parade!

Sandown Park comes alive with pumpkins on Nov 1st

Bring out your pumpkins, and light up Sandown Park. We request that you keep yourselves appropriately distanced when viewing the pumpkins.

This year we will be doing a random draw for prize packs. It’s open to anyone who drops off a pumpkin at our parade! See a member of the SBCA to learn how to enter!

Why do we host a Pumpkin Parade? It’s a chance for us to meet the community in a community-built event. It’s about sharing and admiring people’s creations, seeing kids play with new and old friends and sometimes we’re lucky enough to see a second go-round of costumes! The founder of Toronto’s Pumpkin Parade feels the same way. See her interview here.

We look forward to seeing you November 1st!

Bluffscapes 2022

Join us for our Fourth Annual Front Garden Contest

The Scarborough Bluffs Community Association has partnered with the Birchcliff Garden Club again this year to bring the community “Bluffscapes” – a “Fun and Friendly” Garden Contest. Open to all residents of Birchcliff, Cliffside and Cliffcrest, the Bluffscapes Residential Front Garden Contest showcases beautiful front gardens that are visible from the road.

Gardens will be evaluated on Visual Appeal, Overall Design and Originality. No professionally installed gardens allowed. Homeowners are encouraged to clean up, design, and plant their gardens themselves.

This year we again feature our NEW category: Pollinator Gardens

Judging will be held in early August.

If your garden is dedicated to helping the pollinators please submit under this category.

Vegetable gardens are excluded from this contest.

Judges consist of Birchcliff Garden Club members and Board member of the Scarborough Bluffs Community Association. Judging will take place at the beginning of August with a winner declared by August 20th.

Family Day Hikes and Scavenger Hunt 2022

Enjoy all The Bluffs has to offer!

This year when we were planning Fire & Ice for Family Day, Omicron closed everything down. We weren’t sure if we’d be able to book permits and decided to revisit out Family Day Hike and Scavenger hunt as a way to explore our community, and spend time with your family!

We have a number of beautiful areas to hike in and hopefully you’ll find something new!

Some hikes are easy and accessible, others are a bit more challenging. You may chose to enter the scavenger hunt as well. We’ll have a random draw for prizes for those that send in photos/videos.

Scavenger Hunt and Hike rules

  • Choose a hike (all will be found within Birch Cliff, Cliffside or Cliffcrest)
  • Explore at your own convenience – it doesn’t have to be Family Day itself
  • Be careful as some trails and pathways may be slippery, muddy or steep
  • Please only stick to the path and obey all signs
  • Send your photos at events@sbca.ca by the end of day Feb 22 to be entered in our random draw (prizes to be announced soon)
  • Take photos of interesting things and have fun!
  • BONUS – if you have one of our toques, caps or hoodies – make sure you wear your swag!
  • To be considered for an entry in our draw, we can only accept email submissions. We may post submissions under a #SBCAFamilyDay2022 post on Instagram or Facebook.

New Year and New Faces

The Scarborough Bluffs Community Association (SBCA) has recently entered its 5th year. With help from you – our community, partners and sponsors, we have had tremendous success with our vision: By the community, for the community, for a stronger community.

With this new year, we have some significant changes in our Board Executive. Hector Catre, Co-founder and Chair has retired from his position. While you may still see him occasionally volunteering at SBCA events, his day-to-day involvement with the SBCA has ended. We would like to thank Hector for his dedication, leadership, hard work, and guidance on engaging our community to come together in unity.

The SBCA is thrilled to welcome Julie Torani as our new Chair of our Board! Julie has been with the SBCA since 2019, and brings with her a passion for community building and engagement.

Looking Forward

The SBCA is currently recruiting dedicated, creative, and enthusiastic community members to be a part of our Board for 2022. We are a fresh and dynamic group of like-minded community members, with a passion for event planning, building community, and enhancing the neighbourhoods of Birchcliff, Cliffside and Cliffcrest in the Scarborough Bluffs.

This year we are looking for 2-3 people with a “can do” attitude, strong communication skills, ability to problem solve, and a fun-loving spirit to join our Board. Time commitment for Board Members is between 5-10 hours per month.

Please note that you will be expected to participate in and/or lead community events. We invite people from all backgrounds to send us an email, along with their resume or a letter with related skills defined, expressing interest for joining the Board at: join.us@sbca.ca

If you’re not interested in joining the Board, we’re always looking for volunteers. We are currently planning 2022 events, and will be hosting our AGM next month (stay tuned).
